Just a saddle and bridle fitting type of day

Sorta.  After I had to go fix the Roark's fence-thank heavens no one decided to just hop of where they knocked a wood post out- then I went through all my horse crap in the back and sorted to keep what I still needed/wanted and what wasn't being used or needed.  I got the feed area all re-situated.  It was a sort and clean up type of day.  After my break for lunch I decided to go grab Bahloo and see what she still remembers.  Well Short ride to determine she either doesn't listen to me, or she's forgotten quite a bit of her training.  She didn't want to move out even with verbal commands.  Part  of it was probably me not sitting quite right- my stirrups were too long.  But I know my english saddle fits her, and I have a girth for it and her.  I also wanted to make sure the bridle fit her, the holes should have been right going from the purple bridle to the red bridle.  So I took a few little laps around the barn and had her end on a good note.  We'll try again next weekend but keep at it a little longer.

So yes, it was a Bahloo day.  The saddle fits her quite nicely and other than the hideously long stirrups(which I should have shortened but never did) the saddle was super comfy.  So when Heidi finally decideds to actually develop whithers it'll be a good saddle for us to ride in. 

After our ride, I chatted with Lois, Dawn and Jason while Bahloo helped mow their yard.  Then I put her back out to pasture with the other two(who wanted to come out sooo badly), and proceeded to fill their water tub-before Bahloo sticks her feet in it for being so shallow- and Heidi just stood there with me while it was filling.  I scratched between her forlimbs and she swayed back and forth against my hand, at least I know she's still itchy!  Then I sat on the edge of the tub and we played with her lips and my hands.  I'll have to give her another few days of betadine baths on her chest this week.  She'll get a full bath this coming weekend as she's shed out enough.  I clipped all of their halter paths through their manes today- everyone stood very well- other than Heidi needing to learn to drop her head just a little bit more since I know I won't grow any taller!  Then everyone got a dose of Freedom 45 for tick protection.  Yeah one tube may only last 2 weeks, and it's 6 tubes per box.  So I got a months worth in one box- not exactly cheap either, but better than vet bills!  Oh well.  I had one on my ear last weekend, I had to pick one off Heidi yesterday and had one in my hair today- Funny how ticks don't appreciate being cut in half.  

  Uhg, I keep hearing Tick season is going to be nasty this year- this won't be nice I hate ticks. 

Last of the barn fence pens done!

Dad and I finished the penning the barn in to keep the big furry kids out of the little furry kids.  It has been replaced feild wire with cattle panel peices.

They haven't been able to bend the cattle panels.

Multiple Projects Working!

I've got a few projects that have been halfway started for a while now. 

So when I got home from Tractor Supply- picking up what I forgot yesterday, I loaded some stuff up in the truck and took the truck out to the horse pasture to work on the fencing project.

Pulled everything away from the old fence wire.  You can see what Tess and Bahloo have done to it, so I've got one cattle panel right now that is going to span the longer chunk and I'll be picking up another panel on Monday to do the front side of the barn and the other small peice on the back.  Gates already down. 

All the posts around the barn are now cemented in!

I also wanted to make another big brood cage for my other Brood only dutch doe Tonya.  It takes two of my old metal tray cages, took part of them out and put two of them together to make a 30 x 36 in cage. 

Tonya doesn't understand why she has such a big cage, but she doesn't realize she's brood doe only, she's a mismark but got the body type to kill (figuratively speaking of coarse).  But she doesn't mind her new cage.  Keisha's not so sure on this new neighbor!

THere's both 30 x 36 cages side by side.  There's a little stub sticking up that I'll have dad chainsaw or hand saw off tomorrow that keeps the tray from going all the way in on Tonya's cage, but she'll be okay for tonight.  I've got the 4 smaller cages below the top big two and they're also all dutch, for right now it's Syd, Anna, Colby and a holland doe that was supposed to swap with a tort dutch doe today, but Jennifer got busy.  The bottom 4 cages are all of the last of my holland lops- 2 pairs of them, until my old boys die, at least Speedle needs a mate, Gabriel is fine with or without. 

I took a couple of the spring cage closers off the old wire cages to replace where the one broke on Ebony's cage.  It seems to be working, only I decided to use two instead of one to keep the door closed better.  I might dismantal the rest of the old cages for those spring clips and put them on the hanging cages.  Alex keeps opening his cage! 

Loaded all the old/extra wire into the truck since the truck was out in the pasture with me anyway, to bring it down to recylcling.  Looks kinda funny in there!  There's a bag with the garbage from cementing and the little wheelbarrow that we mixed the cement in, I tossed on top of the wire to bring it back to the shed. 

No real new pictures of the horses, I put one of Phoenix's fly masks on Bahloo so I could stick that one I had gotten Bahloo, onto Heidi so her forlock can hang out and not pester her underneath the mask.  Still got to re-work Heidi's bridle so the bit stays comfortable in her mouth.  Maybe I can get dad out to help me take a couple pictures to show everyone Heidi's Canine teeth- she's the only one that has them!!  Lucky her!
Bahloo's turning so dark as her summer coat comes back in black, and the brown sunburnt hair falls out.  She'll be at least another month or more before we know if she's got a 'hot date' or not.  But at least she's got a nice bridle that will have to get used very soon!
Phoenix is putting on his weight again, He's doing awesome, I watched him running across the feild at all 4 gaits and no coughing or lugging.  Heidi's the only one that still coughs when she does it, Guess it's time to get her furry butt into shape! 

Alex is a Daddy!

Xena had her babies this morning.  She's such a big doe, it's hard to ever tell if she's pregnant but she graced us with 5 babies this morning! Alex is now a proven daddy- Look Kate, you're a grandma!

Shepardsville Rabbit show!

Sorry, beyond too tired to post this last night. 

At the start of the show, judging has just barely begun, you can see my dutch stacked up in the middle.  Small building with several national shows going on.

Took some pictures of the Harliequins for Aunt Lisa to see.  Harliequin nationals were there, so lots of Harlie breeders!
I never did like the Japanese Harlie's so I only took pics of the Magpie's.  Japanese have a base color of orange with the other color, Magpie's have a base of White with the other color.

This was taken a short while before Best in Show, showing started.  A lot of people left- they had to go watch that basketball game- UK versus Louisville Cardinals!

Home and unpacked.  New carrier is Dutch sized, old one is New Zealand size.  I got two of the dutch sized ones.

This is the little 'tag along' as I called her that I got from the raffle and brought home.  No one wanted her as they didn't furnish her pedigree for the raffle.  Proven mother and a broken Chinchilla color.  I figure once-maybe twice a year I'll breed her with Speedle so Speedle can ride something other than his food crock. 

My ribbons from the Show.  5 blue, 3 red in Show A.  4 Blue, 4 red show B.  The ribbons colors co-inside with horse show ribbons too- I managed to escape with all blue and red- no whites! 

All-in-all very good day, the buck I took Best Opposite Sex of breed with has made his way to Indiana with two does that I had for sale.  No trophies as Dutch were not sanctioned this time around(they will be next year though, Catherine and I will see to it!), but they had extra mugs from Best Opposite sex, so we got a mug!

Hoss's side fencing project!

Dad and I worked on the fenceline between us and Hoss.  It had been some barbwire.  Amazingly enough there were enough spots that the big girls could have just stepped over it and gone into Hoss' feild and they didn't.  Good Girls! 

Looking up towards the back corner- we didn't quite make it all the way. Dad thought that roll would have made it, but looks like we'll be peicing it with the rest of my other roll.  That last big tree is where we cut it off, leaving less than 10 feet of the roll.  I took a TON of the barb wire down, it was rusted and on the ground anyway.

I didn't get the time to attach the t-posts yet, that'll have to wait until tomorrow afternoon.  But it looks smooth coming back from Lois'. 

And Today I betadined Heidi's belly and put children's strength Benedryl anti itch gel on it,  I took new pictures to show the vet tomorrow when I go up there to ask him what to do. 

Tis a good thing she doesn't mind me climbing around under her! 

I should have re scrubbed her belly but the sun was disappearing quickly so I just grabbed fly masks off for the evening.  She hadn't started to itch again until very late this afternoon.

Tomorrow first thing in the morning is a quick visit to Dr. Joe, then lunch with dad at Red Lobster, and then an afternoon of re-brushing the horses clean and probably bathing Heidi and Phoenix.  Phoenix has the same bumps and scabs as Heidi, I just never see him scratch like she does-Bahloo's been scratching but I don't feel any bumps-that could be from the mud though.   Pheonix does have a small rip in his skin on his leg from what looks to be him itching himself, and I cleaned that up and put some scarlett spray on it after I took his flymask off. 

Fly masks and fence repair

To our knowledge, Bahloo's never wore a fly mask before so I guessed on the sizing and got her an XL.  It looks tiny on her, but it fits-good enough- to survive.  She didn't take it off by night fall.

New post in, now time to get the stretcher post in and the bracer post and the wire back up!

Wire is back up, but I left the corner blocked off for the night.  I forgot to get the nails to nail the bracer post to the fence posts, so I'll take the panels down tomorrow after I go get some nails!

Heidi's belly where she keeps rubbing it across the ground.  She itches horribly and I don't know why.  I went out to Walmart tonight and picked up some Betadine solution to scrub her with tomorrow.

Going to talk to the vet on Monday see what Dr. Joe says if she still itches through the betadine scrub and benadryl gel that I got to rub on it tomorrow.  I tried the scarlett spray but Heidi's not a big freak for spraying things so I've been using my Swat(hence the pink, I had pink for Jasmine).  Dr. Joe will get tired of seeing me I think!  But better to go in and chat with him instead of doing the farm call and having him come out.
