Fall to Winter update

 Well been just a working, working and more working kind of summer. Late August/early September we brought the horses home and they were put out with Sophie the beef.  I jokingly call them the "black 'n white" trio since Sophie's a black baldie. 

I have started to winterize as it turns cold this weekend.  Been quite the chilly day today as it was!  I think my Mini Lops have really taken over my barn.  I have had so much fun with them.

Both of my Spot girls, Suzy and Lindsay, have settled and are good together.  They have actually gotten to be really neat in their pen(this picture was early on). 

My Mini Lop young boys are so photogenic and are getting their names from CSI NY.

This one is Don Flack:

This fella is the newest one, also from the same breeder as Don, but he doesn't have a name yet.  I had thought of Sid Hammerback but it just doesn't fit him.  

This guy is Danny Messer, he's a home grown out of Ashlynn and by Luke.  

Danny and no name boy.  They are roughly the same age.

But as you can see from the bunny pictures, I have winterized the barn.

As a plus for fall- sunset colors are much more vivid

Little bit of a busy day

 This morning started out in a whirlwind.  Due to the loss of the front two pastures at the Warner farm thanks to a drunk driver the horses had to take a few weeks over at the Francis farm while we spread the sheep out to get the babies weaned and off to market.  So Heidi's first time ponying another horse, and first time under full tack since August 2021. Stormy's first time being ponied.  We didn't die, the first third of the ride was a bit of a struggle but the girls settled into what we were doing.  Untacked and turned them loose!  So for 2.5 weeks they will stay out in Nelson's pasture while the lambs wean and get off to Market. 

They had a little jaunt around while I was filling the water tub.  So hopefully they will be good and settle in for a few weeks.  They were at the end of their bag of feed and good thing.  Heidi's girth didn't fit- it took FOREVER to get it on.  I need a new one anyway but I will get the next size up since longer girth will be easier than fitter horse.  

Anyway after Aunt Lisa came and picked me and my tack all up, we moved the rams and llama's over to the pond pasture then set up and moved the ewes all over into the catch pen.  Then came worming and sorting.  All the wethers and what few ewes that were getting culled were released into that pasture, then the keepers were walked back across the driveway.  
As I joked afterwards, only casualty I noticed was my boot finally gave up.  

I wondered why it quite squeaking . . . Oh well.  I have been meaning to replace my old wolverine boots for a while.  Now question will be do I get another pair of Wolverine or do I get another pair of Ariat boots?  I did like my old Ariats that I had.  

Spring coming

My solo Holland Lop bunny, Evie.  She's only a pet in my barn, I am still weaning down on the rabbits and have a few that will go at the show April 2nd! 

The horses have been good. This is roll #7, and hopefully the last roll they are going to get

Heidi, the few times I have gotten on her bareback while she is eating, feels as firm and good as she was before Stormy.

Stormy, as 20 months old I have now been able to put the mounting block next to her, she squared herself up and I have gotten up on it and leaned over her and put some pressure on her back.  She stood stock still.  She's going to be as easy going as Heidi.

Meanwhile, Willow has been healing from her ACL Surgery a month ago, and she has been enjoying her late afternoon snuggles when it's cruddy outside and I curl up to watch a movie in the recliner.

Soon the spoiled lap nap time will end as the weather gets better and better.

Horses got their 7th roll of hay put out today.  That should be their last roll of hay for the winter I am hoping!  

Then lastly I had the baby bunnies out so I could do their sale photo's today.  

It's actually 3 different litters in the x-pen.  the 1 bigger dutch baby has been sold already, the others have not yet.

Just some pony pictures.  It was decent outside so I was outside for a little while.  I was tightening chains on the hay rolls.  

Heidi's poor tail is just so gross from all the mud.  Now I know why I like to braid her tail in the winter.

I put Tessa's fleece on Stormy.  She didn't bat an eye at all.  It's still a little long for her but she's just a baby still.

 Well winter time blues going on here.  I am ready for spring.  At least on the weekends I try to get all the waters done where Aunt Lisa has been doing them most of the week.  

^^ Saturday ^^ was at least sunny.  Sunday it snowed some again- just some passing flurries. 

Is winter over yet???  

Winter is here!

 Seriously lost that bet that it wouldn't snow but it called my bluff!  Made it to work no problem but after lunch the roads were getting seriously bad.  I64 and I75 got shut down and as I learned later on, route 60 in Mt Sterling got shut down as well from accidents.  

So I made it as far as Aunt Lisa and Uncle Jim's for the night.  Got to work about an hour late but made it.  

The horses got their grain just dumped into the snow to eat.  I have no idea where their rubber feed pans are underneath all that snow.
