Poor old boy

Well Phoenix got a nice Emergency visit from Dr. Legends today and had a chunk taken out of his hoof to drain the abscess. Now his hoof is blue vetwrap and he's stall-bound for 3 or 4 days to keep it dry and clean. The soaking is great fun! Half hour in epsom salt twice a day!
Thankfully he's a seasoned Vetran and he stands very very well for the soaking. He only fought a few times because of the temperature of the water- the farther along the cooler the water the longer he kept it in. He's got a huge hole bore into his hoof to get to the abscess and open it up to drain it. Dr. Legends says its from a bruise that got infected, probably from the hard ground. Though to expect at least the other rear to do the same thing, because it's quite possible.

The babies have started to jump in and out of the box at 13 days old, a few days younger than I expected. The guys that bought them were happy to see them out of the box, 3 more weeks until weaning and another 2 after that until they go to their new home.

How does that happen? Are hoof abscesses common?

Actually they are some what common because Jake had an abscessed hoof once. It took a few weeks to heal, but it was fine after that.
